This column has carried some crazy notions over the last year or so… but few as seemingly bizarre and wide of the mark as this one.
The Sun reckons Stoke have not only received a bid from a Premier League club for Mame Diouf – they have also rejected it after telling Leicester he’s worth £15m!.
This is the same Mame Diouf who couldn’t make Stoke’s starting 11 at Leeds yesterday and wasn’t even considered good enough to help chase the game at 3-1 down.
The same Mame Diouf who many Stoke fans apportion plenty of blame towards for missing so many chances during the relegation run in.
We can only assume The Sun have got the wrong player, the fee wrong, or have simply gone stark raving mad.
Mind you, how many of us scoffed at the idea of Ben Foster, Richie de Laet and Lee Grant going to Manchester United?
Now if The Sun had said Manchester United were in for Diouf…
Elsewhere, and assuming you’ve caught your breath, Bild in Germany reckon Manchester United are in talks with Bayern Munich over £44.5m-rated centre back Jerome Boateng, a valuation almost as crazy as Diouf’s if you watched him in the World Cup finals.
The Mirror reports that Tottenham have shied away from Wilfried Zaha and that leaves Chelsea favourites to land the Crystal Palace ace for something like £75m.
Still with silly figures and in the Express there’s a story in which Aaron Ramsey’s people deny demanding £300k-a-week for their client to remain with Arsenal long term.
Brentford could be without defender Chris Mepham when they travel to Stoke City on Saturday as the Mail says both Leicester and Bournemouth are sniffing around.
