1. Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson
The Obama’s are, without a doubt, an absolutely iconic couple. The former president and first lady exude closeness and complicity in this snap from their 1992 wedding. Note the kicked off shoes and Barack’s content, if a little tired, face: it looks like they didn’t stop dancing all night!
Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer
Audrey Hepburn is the epitome of gamine chic and the dress/flower crown combo from her1954 wedding to Mel Ferrer certainly didn’t disappoint. Full-length white gloves and a high collar smarten the midi circle skirt’s more casual shape, and for those styling choices, Audrey gets a 10/10.
3. Robbie Williams and Ayda Field
One word: dogs! Williams and Field found the perfect way to include their beloved pooches on their special day. Dressed in flower collars and happily posing with their owners, that is hands down one of the most heart-warming wedding snaps.
Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
It’s impossible to not include William and Kate on this list. Their wedding was so hotly anticipated and it certainly didn’t disappoint, from their sweet moments of complicity during the ceremony to Kate’s breathtaking McQueen gown, everything was regal without being over the top.
Andy Murray and Kim Sears
The two teenage sweethearts look thrilled to finally be married in true Scottish style. Andy’s kilt and traditional elements make for a unique groom’s outfit and Kim’s simple yet embellished gown highlights her waist and décolletage, while still being elegant and demure. Also note her embellished headband, which can bring panache to a simpler gown.
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi
These two brides give us a lesson in style. Reflective of their personal style, their wedding outfits are functional, beautifully made and most importantly, complimentary. They also show that brides don’t need to wear traditional princess dresses, but rather what is right for them, regardless of expectations or so-called rules.
Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl
These two are attractive and stylish with a hint of quirky, so it’s no surprise that their 2014 wedding embodied that. Huebl carried off a white suit and Palermo unconventionally paired a knit sweater with shorts and an overlaid skirt. She did add a touch of colour with some Carrie Bradshaw blue Manolo’s, which have become bridal outfit staples since they were featured on Sex and the City.
8. George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin
There’s nothing like the smiling faces of happy newlyweds, and both Clooney’s look so happy and content following their ceremony. Their union was a classic affair, but so elegant and finely tuned, from the floral arrangements and chandeliers to Amal’s timeless shoulder bearing gown: simply stunning.
9. Fearne Cotton and Jesse Wood
The most rock ‘n’ roll bride on our list, Fearne showed her quirky style when marrying Jesse four years ago. The length of her dress draws attention to her bridal sandals and tattoos, with the sequins at the top offsetting the more classic shape and bringing some sparkle in a non-blingy way. As for Wood, he accessorises with a pair of classic dark sunglasses, in true rocker spirit.
John Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette
When American royalty get married, you know they’re going to do it in style. Simple and elegant are the keywords here and Carolyn’s gown, veil and gloves all work together to create a winning combination. Her red lipstick adds a touch of old school glamour and finishes off her classic outfit choice. Also look at all the love there! What a beautiful couple.
