Celebrity Big Brother: Jonathan Cheban contemplates death of Celebrity Big Brother

Jonathan Cheban may have walked out of Celebrity Big Brother after two very surreal weeks in the house back in 2016, but the star still had a lot of love for the show as a fan, and is duly “sickened” by its cancellation.

The reality TV star and Foodgod founder made firm friends with Gemma Collins during his time on the Channel 5 series, which also featured Darren Day, Hollyoaks star Stephanie Davis, Danniella Westbrook, and eventual winner Scotty T.

“It doesn’t matter [that I walked out], I thought Celebrity Big Brother was amazing and I’m a huge fan of the show,” he told Digital Spy.

“I’m devastated [it’s been axed]. The fact I was in the UK and I couldn’t watch it… This is usually when it’s on. I run home every night to watch it. The fact that it’s not on is sickening to me. I can’t believe they would cancel Big Brother! It’s like an institution!”

Cheban was not a fan of the house’s communal bedroom being split into two rooms though, and suggested: “They should have revamped the show in a cool way.

“I didn’t like how they did the two bedrooms thing – I think that killed the whole thing. I hope another network will pick it up. I used to watch it on my computer. I don’t even turn a computer on all year unless it’s to watch Celebrity Big Brother!”

He added that he turned down a “very generous” sum of money to go on I’m a Celebrity to appear on CBB instead, admitting that he wouldn’t be able to handle the jungle. (His best mate Gemma did only last three days, after all…)

Meanwhile, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star delighted fans over the weekend when he was pictured in the audience of ITV’s Dancing on Ice to support The GC.

“I was happy to support Gem, she’s hysterical,” he said. “I just love her and we get on really well. I met Arg [Gemma’s boyfriend] on my last trip when I was with my mum and we had dinner. I’m so happy they are together, they are a great couple.”

Cheban conceded that he might take part on the celebrity ice skating show – if he could do all his training in the US beforehand. And we thought Gemma was the diva! (Love you really, Cheebs).

“The only way I would do it would be if I could practise in the US and then go there and do the show, which could work,” he ruminated. “That could work. They haven’t approached me yet.”

The star was also in the UK to promote his brand Foodgod, which he assures us he will be officially changing his name to at some point in the near future.

“Everybody calls me a Foodgod over here,” he explained. “I have a huge burger deal with a company called BurgerIM and they’re moving into the UK. I have a huge candy line coming, so Foodgod is a big brand. The UK loves food so much I can’t wait to start doing a lot more of it and start Foodgod over in the UK.”

And who doesn’t love a giant candy floss as big as your head? Or a French fries pizza?

Celebrity Big Brother was cancelled last year, but host Emma Willis is still holding out hope that it might get given “a home in the future”.
